Can I bring a plus one to the Awards Ceremony

You can indeed. In fact, you get a plus two!  So you don't have to choose between your parents, or your partner and a parent, or your tutor and a best mate. You get the best of both worlds - the more the merrier.

Tell me more about the Awards Ceremony

It’ll take place on the same day as your interview with the judges.

Once your 25-minute slot is up, you’re free as a bird for the rest of the morning and/or afternoon to explore Bristol.

Then, we’ll all rendezvous back at Watershed in the evening for a party, and our judges will announce their winners.

Can I bring a friend/mentor/my dog to the interview with me?

While you can bring a friend or mentor to the Watershed, they won’t be able to accompany you into the actual interview itself. Don’t worry though – the interview isn’t scary; it’s your chance to shine.

And sadly, no dogs allowed. The beautiful floofers always steal the show you see.

How do I share my portfolio with the judges?

First, make sure you sign up for our emails by registering your interest. (Don't worry - we won't bombard you with updates.) But we will ask you to share URLs to your work closer to the time, so we can get a feel for you and your style.

Do I qualify?
  • I’m a university or college student
  • I’m studying in the South West of England / South Wales (or living in South Wales / South West while studying via the Open University).
  • I’m in my final year of study
  • I'm happy to attend an interview and Awards Ceremony at Watershed in Bristol on Thurs 13 June 2024, if I make the finals.
  • I am not a robot

Answer all of the above questions with a ‘Yes’?

Congrats! You qualify.

I’m from Cardiff, but I’m studying in Brighton/Bognor Regis /Berwick-upon-Tweed. Can I still apply?

Unfortunately, no. It doesn’t matter where you’re from either way. It’s about where you’re studying or currently living.

If you’re studying in the South West or South Wales, or living in South Wales or the South West while studying via the Open University, you’re in.

How do I submit my entry?

You’ll be able to submit your project(s) via our Dropbox in the ENTER section of our website from Mon 11 Mar 2024.

You’ll have until midnight of Fri 31 May 2024, after which, submissions will be officially closed.

Do I need to prepare anything?

You’ll need to be ready to answer questions about your submitted project. But you might also want to have your digital portfolio, website and/or any other supporting documents handy. The judges want to get a good idea of you and your work – not just your submitted project.

Can I submit more than one application?

Absolutely! You can submit as many different projects as you like, as long as each of them is submitted separately and follows The Rules™.

IMPORTANT NOTE

If you submit multiple projects simultaneously via Dropbox, only one will be recognised. So always send each individually.

When do I find out if I’m one of them?

Finalists will be announced on Weds 5 June 2024. We’ll aim to contact everyone by 7pm, so be sure to keep checking your phone and email, or keep an eye out for smoke signals.

You’ll have two weeks between finding out you’re a Chosen One, and Judgement Day itself. So plenty of time to prepare.

How many finalists are there?

There’ll be ten in total. Ten finalists, three categories to win, plus one ultimate prize! (We told you these are some good odds.)

When is Judgement Day?

Thursday 13 June 2024 (lucky for some)

PLEASE NOTE

Judgement Day is not to be confused with The Rapture, End of Days or the Apocalypse which could happen at any time. Any biblical occurrences on JD are purely coincidental, and P+S accepts no responsibility for lakes of fire nor plagues of any kind.

What happens on Judgement Day?

We’ll invite you to a 25-minute interview with our judges at Watershed in Bristol. You’ll talk about your work, show off your portfolio and convince them you’re worthy of the win!

Later on that evening, we’ll invite you back to Watershed to attend our Awards Ceremony where we’ll announce our champions!

PLEASE NOTE

If more than one of your projects has made the final, you’ll be required to attend more than one 25-minute interview.

What are the judges looking for?

Our esteemed judges will be marking against the following criteria:

Is it creative?

  • Does it demonstrate a firm grasp of design and/or development techniques?
  • Is it effective in communicating its key idea or message?
  • Is it user (or reader or watcher) friendly?
  • Have you shown how it would work in the real world?
  • Creativity for its own sake is a wonderful thing. But if real clients were paying real money, and expecting real results, would it work?

So ask yourself:

  • Does it have a purpose?
  • Would it be profitable?
  • Is there a market/cultural/social demand for it?

And super-importantly…

  • How would I roll it out as a campaign across different channels?

In other words, show us how your work has value in the real world.

Is it written in the stars?
